The reason for the high figures of mental health problems among gay men is the prejudice and fear in our society which was exacerbated by the AIDS crisis.
I say gay men, although this also affects other LGBT+ people, because it was mostly gay men who caught the HIV virus that causes AIDS.
Psychic and spiritual pressures caused by fear and aggressive knee-jerk reactions have led to an increase in violent attacks on gay people.
But these are not the only effects.
Aggressive conversion therapy practices caused by moral panic increases spiritual pressure on gay men.
And blaming gay people has hardened into a snub-nosed prejudice which causes scapegoating and damnation.
All of these things persist in our society.
And they are the causes of much of the mental health problems among gay men.
