Preparing a Place.
"'I go to prepare a place for you.'" John 14:2c (NRSV)
What will it take to prepare a place for you in the Church?
First of all there must be a willingness within the Church to change.
If we stick stubbornly to the way things have always been done the Church will die. Because this way has been rejected.
What must we be prepared to change?
The Church's attitude towards sexuality must change.
We must develop a healthy attitude which views sex, including homosexual sex, as a natural part of God's good creation.
We must reinterpret the Bible as a narrative which utilises many styles including: myth, history, poetry, and metaphor.
We must reconcile scripture with the realities of science.
We must replace negative doctrines with positive ones.
We must free our minds from all hatred and prejudice.
But most of all we must open our hearts and give love to those who come. Because it is through love that we are saved.
"God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them." 1 John 4:16b (NRSV)
