It is our natural inclination to follow the winners: the celebrities, the rich and powerful, the stars.....
And neglect the losers: the nobodies, the battlers, the outcasts.....
To God all are equal.
So if we are to be like God a change of attitude is necessary.
"'for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.'" 1 Samuel 16:7b (NRSV)
Jesus used the expression children of God when he wanted people to be more like God.
To be like God we must look upon all people with a compassionate heart.
Rather than lauding the winners and seeking their favor, we should be helping the losers and comforting their pain.
Rather than embracing the hard philosophy of the winners, we should be softening our hearts towards the losers.
Perhaps we will get a surprise when God does not choose to be close to the winners but stands by the losers.
Cry out to God!
He will hear.
