Crime.


In the beginning the Hippies believed that criminals were poor people who had not had the privileges that others had.  And were therefore not guilty.  We believed that if you showed them love and understanding that they would change.  But not if the society that made them that way didn't change.

Later, when we experienced abuse, intimidation, ridicule, and blame, we were reconstructed as cynical, materialistic pragmatists.

We were right the first time.

What we believed intuitively was closer to God than what we learned.

Harsher penalties, victims rights, tough love....
We have moved further away from the truth.

We have hardened our hearts.
