Apocalypse. "In Greek it means, literally to strip off - what athletes did before competing in the gymnasium.....And figuratively it means to reveal the true nature of something. We seem, bizarrely to have forgotten that revelation is the English equivalent of apocalypse! These texts are stripping off what we think is reality to reveal God's reality."*
"What we think is reality."
Money talks, power rules, violence wins, hate works, greed is good, dog eat dog.....
These are the realities of our world.
But they are not God's reality.
God's reality is different:
Mercy, forgiveness, compassion, generosity, consideration, patience, faithfulness, truthfulness, reliability.....
These things characterize God's reality.
But most of all God embodies a steadfast love that is unconditional and enduring.
God's love is forever.
A student once asked an Indian Yogi: "Is there a reality?"
The Yogi said: "Yes, there is an ultimate Reality."
And by this he meant God's beautiful nature that is born of Love.
Light. Life, Love.
These three things come from God.
But the Heart of it all is Love.
