Good News to the Poor.

When Jesus started his ministry he began with the words: "'good news to the poor'".  Luke 4:18 (NRSV)

He did not say tax cuts for the rich.

He did not say the poor are all bludgers and addicts.

He did not say trickle-down economics.

He did not say: "You don't work you don't eat."

He said: "'Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.'"  Matthew 6:26 (NRSV)

Oscar Romero said: "When I feed the poor, they call me a saint.  When I ask why they are poor, they call me a communist."

Jesus met the same fate.
