In his Avignon Quintet Lawrence Durrell created a quincunx of novels.
That is a central book surrounded by four subsidiary books.
The central book is called "Monsieur or The Prince of Darkness".
And in this book the characters visit a remote Egyptian oasis where they are initiated into some sort of Gnostic cult.
The participants have visions of Satan and afterwards their mentors explain that the devil rules the earth and that he is the snake or Kundalini of Yoga.
These are Satanic lies.
The revelations seem fascinating at first but they do not stand the scrutiny of time.
At the end of this central book there is an Envoi - "D - created Blanford - created....."
D is the devil.
