When I came to understand that I was gay, I had to face that I was now one of the people I was taught to hate. To tolerate my own existence meant I had to change the way I thought about other-sexed and other-gendered people. It was not easy, but I had a renewal of mind, as St Paul would say. I also had to face the same prejudices I was taught about people of other faiths, people of other races, and those people who felt the same hate about me. Eventually I did. Coming to terms with being gay has been one of the hardest, and greatest gifts God has given me.
